Chapter Ten

Alex activated the message relays and sent out a message to Andromeda. A strange looking alien appeared on his display and said, “I have been assigned to communicate using this frequency.”

“We are sending more than a hundred thousand freighters with missiles for your warships. The first shipment will arrive in about four weeks.”

The alien’s six eyes widened, and it asked, “What do we need to do to use them? Surely we’ll need to modify our missile systems.”

“Don’t you currently send targeting data directly from your scanners to your missiles?”

“Yes.”

“Well, all you need do is set the frequency of your scanners into the missile’s programming and that can be easily done. It’s important that you tell your warships that they should only fire one missile at a single Attacker Warship.”

“And what if their blasters destroys it before it impacts?”

Alex smiled, “That would be a good feat considering the missiles have a stealth coating that will make them invisible to the ship’s they’ve targeted, and they are programmed to avoid blaster fire.”

“Someone should be here to make sure we do this correctly.”

“I’ll be arriving ahead of the freighters and I’ll have the Leaders link me in with all of your warships and I’ll explain how to make the missiles work with your scanners.”

The Alien stared at Alex and then said, “I’ve had my doubts about you in spite of what the Elders say. This goes a long way to remove those doubts.”

“We’re only bringing four or five billion missiles on the first shipment. We’ll be sending more later.” The alien lowered its head slightly and Alex ended the transmission.

“Will that be enough?” Jingle asked from beside him.

“It will probably be enough for the first attack they launch if they only send three fleets. However, it’s going to take a lot more than that on any subsequent attacks.”

“But we don’t have any more of them in storage!”

“Wozniak has reopened the manufacturing facilities that made them and they’re operating at maximum capacity.”

Jingle paused and asked, “You don’t think they’ll back off if we destroy the next attack?”

Alex shrugged, “I don’t know. I’d probably back off, but Mab is of the opinion that the first attack will only be the first salvo they fire at Andromeda. He says they won’t be able to stop themselves because of the behaviors they’ve ingrained for who knows how long.”

“Alex, I’ve known Mab is intelligent, but sometimes he makes me worry about what’s going on in his head.”

“He’s more like you than Belle; she thinks more like me although I’ve not won many arguments with her. He puts things together that all of us miss, just like you do.”

“But he does it better than I do!”

“I’m not so sure about that. You’ve allowed the fear of our children being harmed during our mission to hold your attention and you haven’t really focused on what’s going on. You need to put that aside and really focus on things.” Jingle blew out a hard breath and nodded.

Mab finished his debriefing and went looking for Jingle.
